Statistics: Every fifth child at least once received on the Internet photo 18+

The safety of children on the Internet is daily threatened. Unfortunately, parents cannot constantly monitor what the child does on the network. Especially if the child's computer and smartphone does not have a parental control program installed. Statistics show that every fifth teenager at least once received from unfamiliar or familiar people on the Internet a photo of a sexual nature.

The international center “La strada” conducted a survey in Moldova about the safety of children in the Internet space. The survey results say that 82% of teenagers sent photos and videos of a sexual nature, and this happened more than once. And only 9% of children told parents that they were sent photos or videos 18+.

In Moldova, 4 out of 10 children under the age of 10 years are already registered in social networks, and 2/3 children aged 12-15 have unlimited Internet access daily.

According to the survey, 8.6% of children aged 14-15 sent photos or videos of their naked bodies via the Internet over the past 12 months.

In addition, adolescents often meet in real life with people from the virtual space.

To avoid this, experts recommend to talk with children about safety on the Internet, and also use parental control programs.
